The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, awarded the prestigious World Athletics Elite Platinum Label, is celebrated as one of the fastest and most thrilling events on the global running calendar. Multiple records have been shattered here, including Tigist Assefa‘s time of 2:11:53 in 2023 and the iconic achievements of Eliud Kipchoge over several years. This Berlin marathon attracts thousands of runners annually, offering a perfectly designed course for those aiming to beat their personal bests.

Beyond the marathon itself, the excitement continues with the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON Inlineskating event on the preceding Saturday. Sharing the same legendary course, this unique race is a must for inline skating enthusiasts and spectators alike—a perfect celebration of speed and endurance for all.

The Berlin Marathon route is renowned for its flat, fast design, making it ideal for setting personal bests. Its long, wide avenues prevent runner congestion, and the circular course, with both the start and finish located in Tiergarten, enhances the experience for athletes and spectators alike. As the course winds through the heart of Berlin, it offers participants a unique opportunity to combine sport with sightseeing.

During the race, the city’s tree-lined streets provide ample shade, ensuring optimal temperatures for runners. The urban landscape blends modern architecture with historic landmarks, while the remnants of the Berlin Wall, now an open-air museum symbolizing freedom, add a cultural and emotional dimension to the event.

Overall, the Berlin Marathon is not only an elite athletic challenge but also an invitation to explore a vibrant city rich in history—making it the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable sports holidays.

The Berlin Marathon is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, alongside the marathons in Tokyo, London, Boston, Sydney, New York, and Chicago. It is one of only two events in the series, along with London, held in Europe.

The Abbott World Marathon Majors, established in 2006, is a premier marathon series created to promote the sport and inspire greater participation among runners. Athletes who complete the original circuit earn the prestigious Six Star Finisher Medal. With the anticipated addition of new races to the series, the circuit will soon introduce the Nine Star Medal, celebrating an expanded lineup of marathon events.

Currently, two marathons stand out as candidates to join the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors circuit: the Cape Town and the Shanghai Marathons. Both events are highly appealing options for international runners, not only because of their growing relevance in the global running scene, but also due to the quality of their organization and the attractiveness of their host cities.
