The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is one of the premier races on the international calendar and the first African candidate to join the Abbott World Marathon Majors series. Recognized as a Gold Label Road Race by World Athletics, this event has proven to be a true challenge for both elite athletes and amateur runners alike. This year is a crucial moment for the city to demonstrate that its fast course has the potential to stand among the world’s greatest running events.

Running the Cape Town Marathon is not just a sporting experience, it’s also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich culture and vibrant spirit of this iconic South African city. With a course considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in the world, participants will enjoy breathtaking views while passing by some of Cape Town’s most emblematic landmarks. The Cape Town Marathon offers a stunning course that combines South Africa’s natural beauty with the vibrant spirit of its capital. The race starts at Cape Town Stadium and takes runners through the city’s most iconic areas, including the beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, with breathtaking views of Table Mountain, Robben Island, and the Twelve Apostles. Along the way, participants enjoy the fresh sea breeze, coastal scenery, and the city’s lively energy. The finish line is located on Vlei Road in Green Point Park, with the majestic Table Mountain as a backdrop, creating an unforgettable experience for both runners and visitors looking to explore this fascinating city.

Since its first edition in 2007, the event has aimed to elevate the standard of marathon running in South Africa while showcasing the unique beauty of Cape Town, offering an inclusive race suitable for runners of all levels.

Due to the cancellation of the event in 2025, the Abbott World Marathon Majors organization has confirmed an exceptional and highly relevant measure for runners. All finishers of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon 2026 will receive a provisional star on their runner profile. This star will be officially validated once the marathon is definitively included in the circuit, thereby recognizing the effort and participation of runners in this key edition.

The official currency in South Africa is the South African Rand ZAR, so if you are traveling from a country with a different currency, don’t worry as we have the perfect solution for you.

We can show you the easiest way to exchange the exact currency amount you need so that you don’t have to exchange large amounts to be able to travel or pay extortionate fees.

We also offer another option to use local ATMs without fees and pay in stores with the local currency. You can then exchange any remaining amount that you haven’t used back into your local currency so that you don’t have to spend it all before going back home.

PAYMENT METHODS

Single payment: pay the total amount when the booking is confirmed.

Two installments: pay in 2 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: remaining 75% 45 days after your booking is confirmed.

Three installments: pay in 3 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: 50% 30 days after your booking is confirmed.
Last installment: remaining 25% 60 days after your booking is confirmed.

Four installments: pay in 4 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: 30% 30 days after your booking is confirmed.
Third installment: 30% 60 days after your booking is confirmed.
Last installment: remaining 15% 90 days after your booking is confirmed.

* For bookings made less than 90/60/30 days before the date of the event, payment in installments may be subject to different terms or not be available.

** The travel agency reserves the right to cancel the booked trip in the event of non-compliance with the established payment policy.

Cancellations can be made in writing subject to the following conditions:

Registration

Personal, non-transferable and NON-REFUNDABLE, due to the rules of the event organizers. (330€)

Hotel

Until December 31st: the amounts paid shall be refunded without penalty except for a handling fee of 250€ per person.
From January 1st: cancellation shall incur a 25% penalty.
From February 1st: cancellation shall incur a 50% penalty.
From March 1st: cancellation shall incur a 75% penalty.
From April 1st: cancellation shall incur a penalty of up to 100% depending on the date of the request and our suppliers’ policy.

Flights

Airline tickets shall be reimbursed according to the booking conditions established by the airline.

At Travelmarathon, we understand that many runners prefer to arrange their flights independently for various reasons. That’s why we offer complete flexibility: if you decide to book your flights on your own, there will be no issue. However, if you’d like assistance, we’re more than happy to help you arrange them and include them in your travel package according to your preferences.

If you prefer to add flights to your package, all we need is your departure city and preferred time frame, and we’ll find the best option suited to your needs.

The airport for travel to Cape Town is Cape Town International Airport (CPT) located in Matroosfontein to the east of the city and is one of the most important airports on the continent, with many overseas connections and three terminals.
