The Shanghai Marathon, a World Athletics Platinum Label event, is one of the most important marathons in Asia and offers a unique experience for running enthusiasts in one of the most vibrant and modern cities in the world.

This race takes you through Shanghai’s most iconic avenues, from the historic Bund to the futuristic skyline of Pudong, following a course full of contrasts between Eastern tradition and architectural innovation.

The Shanghai Marathon course is flat, fast, and designed to showcase some of the most iconic landmarks of this Chinese metropolis, making it an ideal option for both first-time marathoners and experienced runners aiming for a personal best.

The marathon starts on the central Bund Avenue, along the banks of the Huangpu River, offering breathtaking views of Pudong’s skyline at sunrise. Along the course, runners pass tree-lined boulevards, urban parks, traditional neighborhoods, and modern financial districts. Highlights such as crossing the Nanpu Bridge, passing People’s Square, the Xuhui District, and the Fudan University area add energy and variety to the race, which finishes on the Shanghai Stadium.

The event also boasts excellent organization, well-distributed aid stations, local entertainment, and an international atmosphere that make this marathon a rich and rewarding experience, both athletically and culturally.

The official currency in China is the Chinese Yuan ¥, so if you are traveling from a country with a different currency, don’t worry as we have the perfect solution for you.

We can show you the easiest way to exchange the exact currency amount you need so that you don’t have to exchange large amounts to be able to travel or pay extortionate fees.

We also offer another option to use local ATMs without fees and pay in stores with the local currency. You can then exchange any remaining amount that you haven’t used back into your local currency so that you don’t have to spend it all before going back home.

PAYMENT METHODS

Single payment: pay the total amount when the booking is confirmed.

Two installments: pay in 2 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: remaining 75% 45 days after your booking is confirmed.

Three installments: pay in 3 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: 50% 30 days after your booking is confirmed.
Last installment: remaining 25% 60 days after your booking is confirmed.

Four installments: pay in 4 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: 30% 30 days after your booking is confirmed.
Third installment: 30% 60 days after your booking is confirmed.
Last installment: remaining 15% 90 days after your booking is confirmed.

* For bookings made less than 90/60/30 days before the date of the event, payment in installments may be subject to different terms or not be available.

** The travel agency reserves the right to cancel the booked trip in the event of non-compliance with the established payment policy.

Cancellations can be made in writing subject to the following conditions:

Registration

Personal, non-transferable and NON-REFUNDABLE, due to the rules of the event organizers. (345€)

Hotel

Until May 31st: the amounts paid shall be refunded without penalty except for a handling fee of 200€ per person.
From June 1st: cancellation shall incur a 25% penalty.
From July 1st: cancellation shall incur a 50% penalty.
From August 1st: cancellation shall incur a 75% penalty.
From September 1st: cancellation shall incur a penalty of up to 100% depending on the date of the request and our suppliers’ policy.

Flights

Airline tickets shall be reimbursed according to the booking conditions established by the airline.

At Travelmarathon, we understand that many runners prefer to arrange their flights independently for various reasons. That’s why we offer complete flexibility: if you decide to book your flights on your own, there will be no issue. However, if you’d like assistance, we’re more than happy to help you arrange them and include them in your travel package according to your preferences.

If you prefer to add flights to your package, all we need is your departure city and preferred time frame, and we’ll find the best option suited to your needs.

The main airport for traveling to Shanghai is Pudong International Airport (PVG), located about 30 kilometers southeast of the city center. It is one of the busiest airports in Asia, featuring two main terminals and a wide range of international flights.

To reach downtown Shanghai from the airport, you can take the Maglev train, which gets you to Longyang Road Station in just 8 minutes. Metro lines, city buses, and taxis are also available for convenient transportation into the city

Hyatt on the Bund Hotel 5*

Hyatt on the Bund Shanghai - a Grand Hyatt hotel, most centrally located at HuangPu river banks in downtown successfully re-opened in QIV of 2024 after total 18 months of renovation, uniquely set on the banks of the Huangpu River at the northern part of the Bund. The hotel offers most spectacular views of both the iconic historical Bund and post-modern Pudong’s financial center - a time lapse of one century of architectural history - with convenient access to both airports and major touristic and commercial districts.

Located directly opposite the Oriental Pearl Tower between the cruise terminal and famous Waibaidu bridge, Hyatt on the Bund is also only a 5 minutes-walk from the historical Bund, a short 5-minute drive from People's Square and an 8-minute drive from Yu Yuan Garden.
