The Cardiff Half Marathon is one of the most prominent races in the UK, known for its flat course with some inclines, and its scenic route that passes through the city’s major tourist attractions. Cardiff comes alive with the energy of thousands of spectators who fill the streets to cheer on the runners, creating a unique and unforgettable atmosphere. In addition, it is a charitable event that raises funds for multiple organizations, a tradition deeply rooted in British races.

Since its inception in 2003 with only 1.500 participants, the Cardiff Half Marathon has grown to attract over 20.000 runners, including prominent elite male, female, and wheelchair athletes. This event is the annual host of the Welsh Half Marathon Championships and has hosted international competitions such as the Commonwealth Half Marathon Championships in 2018 and the Half Marathon World Championships in 2016.

The course of this half marathon is known for its speed and nearly unchanged design over the years, making it an ideal route for both elite runners and amateurs looking to improve their personal bests.

The race starts next to the iconic Cardiff Castle, offering a spectacular beginning with a fireworks display. From there, it passes through the city center, going by the Principality Stadium, and heads toward the picturesque Penarth Marina. Halfway through, runners cross into the vibrant Cardiff Bay, where landmarks such as the Norwegian Church and the Wales Millennium Centre stand out.

The final stretch runs through the northern part of the city, circling the serene Roath Park Lake, and finishes at the iconic Civic Centre, in the heart of Cardiff. This flat, fast course, filled with tourist spots, offers an unforgettable experience for all participants.

The Lisbon Half Marathon is part of the SuperHalfs circuit together with the Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Valencia half marathons. All these events were chosen, among other details, for being a Gold Label Road Race by the World Athletics, and for being events where world distance records have been broken or for hosting the World Half Marathon Championship.

The SuperHalfs circuit is a great way to travel to these excellent races and beautiful cities. And completing the course is rewarded by both the organizers and us.

When you complete the circuit, the organization will give you the SuperMedal, but if you also travel with us to all these events to complete the circuit, we will give you a special gift so you can celebrate your achievement and enjoy like a great SuperFinisher.

The official currency in Wales is the Pound Sterling £, so if you are traveling from a country with a different currency, don’t worry as we have the perfect solution for you.

We can show you the easiest way to exchange the exact currency amount you need so that you don’t have to exchange large amounts to be able to travel or pay extortionate fees.

We also offer another option to use local ATMs without fees and pay in stores with the local currency. You can then exchange any remaining amount that you haven’t used back into your local currency so that you don’t have to spend it all before going back home.

The race has a fairly flat and fast route, but it hides some slopes during the route that, although short, can break your race pace.
The start is in the mid morning so you will have enough time to warm up and prepare well for the half marathon.
It is one of the most important events in the United Kingdom, so you will notice it in the organization of the race.
Connections with Cardiff airport are not many, but there are other options to get to the city.
Currently, to travel to the United Kingdom it will be necessary to have a valid passport and, if required according to nationality, a visa.

PAYMENT METHODS

Single payment: pay the total amount when the booking is confirmed.

Two installments: pay in 2 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: remaining 75% 45 days after your booking is confirmed.

Three installments: pay in 3 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: 50% 30 days after your booking is confirmed.
Last installment: remaining 25% 60 days after your booking is confirmed.

Four installments: pay in 4 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: 30% 30 days after your booking is confirmed.
Third installment: 30% 60 days after your booking is confirmed.
Last installment: remaining 15% 90 days after your booking is confirmed.

* For bookings made less than 90/60/30 days before the date of the event, payment in installments may be subject to different terms or not be available.

**The travel agency reserves the right to cancel the booked trip in the event of non-compliance with the established payment policy.

Cancellations can be made in writing subject to the following conditions:

Registration

Personal, non-transferable and NON-REFUNDABLE, due to the rules of the event organizers.

Hotel

Until May 31st: the amounts paid shall be refunded without penalty except for a handling fee of 50€ per person.
From June 1st: cancellation shall incur a 25% penalty.
From July 1st: cancellation shall incur a 50% penalty.
From August 1st: cancellation shall incur a 75% penalty.
From September 1st: cancellation shall incur a penalty of up to 100% depending on the date of the request and our suppliers’ policy.

Flights

Airline tickets shall be reimbursed according to the booking conditions established by the airline.

At Travelmarathon, we understand that many runners prefer to arrange their flights independently for various reasons. That’s why we offer complete flexibility: if you decide to book your flights on your own, there will be no issue. However, if you’d like assistance, we’re more than happy to help you arrange them and include them in your travel package according to your preferences.

If you prefer to add flights to your package, all we need is your departure city and preferred time frame, and we’ll find the best option suited to your needs.

The airport to travel to Cardiff is Cardiff Airport (CWL) located in the town of Rhoose 20km southwest of the Welsh capital and is a medium-sized airport although with international connections.

Another way to get to Cardiff is to travel to one of the London airports or even Bristol airport, and from there take the train or bus to Cardiff.
