Run like the wind - Run Chicago

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is one of the big marathons held in the United States and one of the best marathons in the world, demonstrated by being one of the few marathons in the World Athletics Elite Platinum Label category. Runners from every States in the country and from more than 100 countries meet each year in Grant Park to run a grand marathon in the architecture capital of the world.

We are often asked by runners which is the best marathon in the United States, or at least which one to run first. The truth is that the three marathons are incredible and the three cities are spectacular, but each race and city has its own special charm and Chicago, a city like no other, will surprise you.

The Chicago Marathon is known for its fast and flat course through one of the world’s most magnificent cities, offering views of the city and its lively neighborhoods, as well as a convenient start and finish in beautiful Grant Park.

Elite athletes and amateurs seek to participate in this race for its potential to generate personal, national and world records. The fast marathon course has been the scene of as many as six world records, the latest being set by Kenyan athlete Kelvin Kiptum who break his compatriot Kipchoge’s previous record and set the men’s world record in 02:00:35 in 2023, adding to previous records by Steve Jones, Khalid Khannouchi, Paula Radcliffe and Brigid Kosgei.

The marathon starts at the Loop at the north end of Grant Park, runs north to Sheridan Road, then west to Damen Avenue and south to 35th Street before returning to the finish line at the south end of Grant Park. In other words, it is a circular tour that covers up to 29 neighborhoods in the city and the most emblematic places in Chicago.

The Chicago Marathon is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors along with the Tokyo, London, Boston, Berlin and New York marathons. The Chicago Marathon is, along with the Boston and New York Marathons, the circuit events held in the United States.

The Abbott Marathon Majors is a circuit for marathoners that began in 2006 with the idea of promoting the sport and increasing the interest of runners. And the runners who complete the circuit receive the Six Star Finisher Medal as recognition.

The start/finish area is located in Grant Park, which is a very large area to avoid overcrowding. Make sure you arrive with enough time to make it to your access door, go through security, leave your bag in the cloakroom and get to the starting boxes.
The course is fast and flat, but you should always bear in mind that this perceived speed can be a problem from the middle point of the race, where there are some small inclines.
You need a valid ESTA to travel to the US as well the passport.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: remaining 75% 45 days after your booking is confirmed.

Three installments: pay in 3 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.
Second installment: 50% 30 days after your booking is confirmed.
Last installment: remaining 25% 60 days after your booking is confirmed.

Four installments: pay in 4 interest-free installments.

First installment: 25% when your booking is confirmed.

Cancellations can be made in writing subject to the following conditions:

Registration

Personal, non-transferable and NON-REFUNDABLE, due to the rules of the event organizers.

Hotel

Until April 30th: the amounts paid shall be refunded without penalty except for a handling fee of 100€ per person.
From May 1st: cancellation shall incur a 25% penalty.
From July 1st: cancellation shall incur a 50% penalty.
From August 1st: cancellation shall incur a 75% penalty.
From September 1st: cancellation shall incur a penalty of up to 100% depending on the date of the request and our suppliers’ policy.

Flights

Airline tickets shall be reimbursed according to the booking conditions established by the airline.

At Travelmarathon we know that many of the runners prefer to book their flights on their own, whatever the reason, so we won’t give you any problems if you decide to book the flights on your own, although we can always help you manage them according to your needs and include them in the package.

If you want to include them in the final package, you just have to tell us the city from where you would like to travel and the time of day, and we will find the best option for your needs.

The airport to travel to Chicago is the Chicago-O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and is one of the busiest airports in the world, thus being one of the main airports in the country. new and large airport with multiple international connections.

It is located in the northwest of the city, about 27km away, and is very well connected by public transport and a taxi rank to get to the city.
